March 16, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Lunch | 12pm

Prior to the talk, we’ll be hosting a lunch where guests will have the opportunity to meet Lindsay Morcom and discuss issues around Indigenous language revitalization. All welcome!

Lecture | 2pm-5pm

This talk will explore the beauty of Indigenous languages from a linguistic and cultural perspective, and will also explore what tools are available to ensure their transmission to future generations.  It will commence with a discussion of the cultural importance of Indigenous languages, as well as a description of the linguistic structures of various Indigenous languages and some of the features that make these languages unique in the world. Following this, we will examine the realities of language endangerment in a Canadian context and discuss tools and strategies that are effective in the fight against language death.
